About BOTOX®
BOTOX® is a neuromodulator that serves to block nerve impulses to the muscles in the face. While this may sound daunting, what is happening is very basic. By blocking these nerve impulses, BOTOX® allows the facial muscles to fully rest, thus diminishing the effect of facial expressions on the skin. While not a permanent effect, returning for BOTOX® every 3-4 months allows for optimal results.
The longevity of this treatment depends on three things:
- Your metabolism
- Your muscle strength
- How active your muscles are
Some people will metabolize the product very quickly and will, therefore, need injections more often. Similarly, the stronger your muscles are, the more product you will need. Muscles we frequently use, such as the ones around the mouth and eyes, will need to be injected more often since they are more active.
